Here We Come 1st Grade!

School started back in August but that was in the midst of my blogging hiatus so I never posted about it. Chandler started 1st grade at his new elementary school. Did I mention that we moved back to Rockwall? Yeah, so anyway, he is in a new school this year but he seems to be doing well. He loves his teacher; she is actually a member of our ward here, so that's cool. He also has a few friends. It seems to me that Chandler might be the type of guy with a few close friends rather than many acquaintances. When I ask him who his friends are he only gives names of 2-3 boys. It was the same story all through kindergarten as well. But it's all good, that just means that he will have more time and energy to give to those few close buddies. How did I get off on to that tangent? Boy, I am the worst at that. My apologies blog readers!
Maybe 3 weeks ago his teacher reccommended him for the gifted and talented program. She said that even though they test 1st graders that usually 1st graders don't get accepted but that they will get accepted in 2nd or 3rd grade. Either way I was super proud of him for being reccommended. His teacher said he is a good reader and catches on to things quickly. She also reccommended one other girl in his class and so Chan's teacher sends him and this other girl to the SAGE (that's what they call it here) teacher several times a week for a little enrichment. In that class they get to work on special projects and learn all kinds of stuff. Chandler describes the SAGE teacher as the "hard teacher" because it's her job to make things hard. He says that he really likes going there.
I also get to be Room Mom again in his class so I'm looking forward to that.
1st grade is swell!
