A New Tradition Brings a Roadtrip

For New Year's this year we started a new family traditon of going away for the holiday. It was Nathan's idea and I was beyond excited. Since we decided on this December 29, we had very little time to prepare to leave! We tossed around lots of ideas but finally settled on our old standard: Galveston. We have grown to love Galveston and while it doesn't offer a lot of entertainment or white sandy beaches, it has it's own special charm. We set out on New Year's Eve and were there in plenty of time to ring in the New Year. Enjoy the pictures below. They are completely out of order since Blogger is not allowing me to move them into chronological order right now which is very upsetting to my ocd. ;)
we played on the beach some when it wasn't too cold or windy. the first couple of days were mild but the last couple were too frigid to even step out the front door and it felt like we were in the middle of a hurricane!

here is our beach house...this was a free upgrade from the much smaller house we originally rented. thank goodness for a broken hot water heater on new year's eve at 5pm!
we collected shells and rocks
we were lazy and lounged around watching the tube
we had to use our imagination a lot on those cold days while we played indoors
football on the beach was fun
we sat around watching the beautiful scenery...
...and of course taking pictures of it ;)
it's a must to wear proper winter beach gear!

i had the most fun spending 4 lazy days with this girl...
...and this little boy
...and this handsome big boy
and what vacation isn't complete without a little injury? it's always fun to fall off the dining table bench, land on the windowsill behind you and bite straight through your lip right?
pigtailed little girls who love to play on the beach make me smile
this also makes me smile

and who doesn't smile about cookies???
winter crab hunting wasn't as successful as summer crab hunting...maybe crabs hibernate
we watched many a beautiful sunrise...
...and sunset

this little one wasn't going to miss out on the beach fun

...goodbye 2009. We won't miss you.
